Hoppy to Announce a New Nemacolin Beer!
Just when you thought Nemacolin Woodlands Resort in Pennsylvania’s Laurel Highlands had absolutely everything a guest could desire – five different types of accommodations, more than 70 activities, 15 dining venues – we’ve done it again. We continue to live up to our motto, “Expect the Unexpected,” by debuting our very own limited-edition craft beer.
Created by Penn Brewery, which has been making craft beer in Pittsburgh since 1986 – just one year prior to the Hardy family’s acquisition of the resort – the namesake Nemacolin Ale is now available on tap in three locations on the 2,000-acre property: The Tavern, located within the Lodge complex; The CaddyShack near the Adventure Center; and the Amber Bar at our acclaimed boutique hotel, Falling Rock.
The new brew began being served this past weekend, to the delight of guests who are already dazzled by Nemacolin’s wine cellar – the largest public collection anywhere in the state – and its bartending staff’s commitment to serving the most innovative cocktails in the region.
“Penn Brewery is proud to have brewed this Session IPA exclusively for Nemacolin Woodlands Resort,” said Sandy Cindrich, co-owner and president of Penn Brewery. “It’s one of the first beers from our new small-batch system, and it’s a great one for summer.”
The beer is a blend of three types of malt – Maris Otter Pale Ale, White Wheat and C-40 – plus Centennial and Citra hops and a blend of three strains of yeast. The new brew has a ABV (alcohol by volume) of 5.1 percent and ranks at 50 on the IBU (international bitterness units) scale, putting it right at the middle of the spectrum.
The beer will be available at the resort all summer long. For those who can’t get to the Laurel Highlands this season, Penn Brewery will have very limited quantities available at its restaurant on Vinial Street in Pittsburgh while supplies last.
“We’re very excited to share this hand-crafted, extremely small batch of beer from our friends at Penn Brewery,” said Matt Koons, Nemacolin’s assistant director of food and beverage. “This beer was crafted to be approachable for the beer novice and aficionados alike, with all the traditional characteristics of an IPA without the high alcohol content. This allows guests to enjoy more than one pint responsibly. We hope to introduce other seasonally appropriate brews through the year, providing our guests a truly one-of-a-kind beer year-round.”
